Humanist Wedding?

Scotland is one of several countries where a Humanist wedding is a legal option. This means that couples couples can have a personal Humanist ceremony whenever and wherever they want.

If a religion is important to your family, a Humanist wedding may be able to include aspects of other traditional ceremonies if these are important to you and your partner.

What is a Humanist wedding like?

Humanist weddings vary tremendously from one to the next.
The main characterising feature is how personal they are to each couple but at a typical Humanist wedding you can expect;

- Personal vows
- Talk of the couple
- A legal wedding ceremony in Scotland when performed by someone approved by the Registrar General of Scotland

Why have a Humanist Wedding?

A trained Humanist Celebrant can marry you and ensure your ceremony is professionally delivered and personal to you.

With a Humanist Wedding you are free to create the kind of ceremony you want to reflect your love and lives together. There is a required legal declaration and a few additions that your celebrant will suggest, but aside from this there is the real opportunity with a Humanist wedding for couples to tell their stories as they want to.

Deciding to have a Humanist Wedding is a tremendous opportunity to the kind of wedding that best reflects you. Your Humanist Wedding Celebrant will have a wealth of experience and resources to help you make your ceremony beautiful, meaningful and personal to you.

By creating your own ceremony you will be able to have control over this most important part of your day.

Where can I get married?

By law the service has to be formal and observed with dignity - however, this could take place anywhere suitable.
Humanists marriages have taken place up mountains and in boats as well as in traditional wedding venues like hotels and castles.
