Baby Namings
Is there anything more exciting than welcoming a new baby into your family?
We are always delighted to be asked to facilitate at a Baby Naming celebration as it is such a privilege to be so closely involved with such a special day. It allows the new parents to have a get together to introduce their new child to family and friends with a purpose at the centre of the day.
Just like our weddings, baby namings are unique to the family. We meet with the parents and learn what is important to them. We learn about the other members of the baby's family, grandparents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters and we include these people in the ceremony if that is what the parents want. We ask about the parents hopes and dreams for their new child and what this new life has meant to them. It is always emotional.
Parents often ask friends or family to read a poem, and indeed we have had parents composing their own poetry for their new child. Parents may ask one of the baby's grandparents to propose a toast at the end of the ceremony. A great honour.
There is also the opportunity for the parents to identify 2 people who are really important to them to become the babies Guide Parents. This is not a legal role but a lovely gesture to friends or family who are particularly special and who you trust to have a meaningful role in your child's life.
Without exception, baby naming days are joyful and happy occasions where your new baby is welcomed into your world surrounded by all those people who are important to you.
