Memorials

A memorial is a ceremony held to celebrate a life after the funeral. It might be attached to an ash scattering. It might just be an opportunity after things have settled to get together again with key family and friends. It’s especially helpful if some key people  couldn’t make the funeral.

A memorial lets you reflect with a little distance. It can be less raw and emotional than the funeral. It can be an opportunity to take stock and gather stories to share, taking as long as you want without the pressure of deadlines and paperwork.

You can hold a memorial as a simple gathering at home, in the garden, a local hall, a room in a hotel, or outdoors, in a special place the person who died loved… by a river, up a hill, in the woods. It can be a walk at sunrise. A picnic in the park. A bonfire at twilight.

Your celebrant will work with you to craft a ceremony, with words, music, song, readings, storytelling.

It can be lovely to share photos, bring objects that remind you of the person, light candles. You might want to decorate the space, like a party... hang bunting, tie ribbons to trees or the gate, offer tags to all present to write a message of love and hang them from a message tree.

At the centre, is the story and the love of those present. It can be an important way to reconnect with folks once life has gone a bit quiet.

Whatever you want, whatever has meaning, whatever will help support you in your own onward journey, we can help.
